Promotions - ENVIRONMENTS IS HERE
We have been very busy creating new recipes and serving lines at the high school. This new program is called Environments and it's great. More fresh fruits and vegetables will be offered at every station will offer a reimbursement meal combo that ANY student can get with their account card or pay with cash. There will no longer just be an ala carte line - sandwiches will be combo'd with fruits and vegetables to make a meal. Not only will this choice be healthier for your student it is also more economical. A meal is $2.25 instead of paying $1.50 for an entree, $.50 - $.75 a side which a meal includes 2 sides), and another $.35 milk. Why not make the smart choice and get more healthy food for less. Check out the menu today and every day to see what we are offering.
We are expanding our Environments program to the Middle School. This will be done slowly as to make sure that we keep the lines running smoothly. Please note there will no longer be an ala carte line while students can still purchase single items with cash, ALL of our lines will be available to ALL students and will be reimbursable meals. To begin the school year students will be able to see more fresh fruit and vegetable salads as their side dishes, less potatoes, more whole grains, and the ala carte line will now be a reimbursable hot sandwich, pizza slice, or cold sandwich or wrap with fruits and vegetables as the sides.
Our elementary schools are going to be receiving more of the fresh fruit and vegetable sides also.
PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENTS TO EAT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
SIMPLY GOOD CHARTWELLS, new program to support making healthy choices. Students will be taught about making healthier choices this year as we will be promoting healthier menu options, especially ones with fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, reducing sugar and sodium. There will be focus on Fresh & Local Produce, Good Food, Good Meals, Good Nutrtion, and Flexitarian meals. This will be supported by our new CHEFS 2 SCHOOLS program. Company chefs will visit our schools showcasing their expertise, lead food demonstrations, cooking lessons, create healthy recipes with the students, work with students and participate in Q & Q sessions with the students.
Also be watching for Choose My Plate. This is a much simpler way for us to look at our plates and choosing a balanced meal rather than trying to follow the food pyramid. It's a simple diagram of how your plate should be divided with each food group. Go to ChooseMyPlate.gov for more information.
LOOK FOR SOME EXCITING BREAKFAST PROMOTIONS at all the schools starting soon through March. After all Breakfast is the Most Important Meal of the Day for our students. Let's all help them be ready to learn each day.
