Chartwells-Thompson is honored and excited about the opportunity to serve the students, parents and the administration of Duval County Public Schools. Chartwells-Thompson is a partnership between Chartwells, a division of Charlotte, NC-based Compass Group, and Thompson Hospitality, one of the largest minority owned foodservice companies in the world.  Together, we bring fresh ideas and innovative concepts to school dining.  Our mission is to serve nutritious, well-balanced meals that appeal to students and the school community.

Innovative Programs for Duval Students

With Chartwells-Thompson, students will benefit with Balanced Choices®.  Our comprehensive menu and wellness program, teaches students and the school community how to make sound choices for a healthy lifestyle.  This award-wining program provides healthy meal options, nutrition education and a meal guidance system for students which assist them in making the most nutritious options when selecting meals, snacks, and beverages at school.  Each selection meets precise nutrition criteria and incorporates more whole grains, low-fat dairy, fruits, vegetables and low-fat options into the menu.

Chartwells-Thompson recognizes that breakfast plays a role in improving academic performance. Morning Editions™ breakfast program features a variety of wholesome options daily that students can’t resist - fresh fruit, hot sandwiches, home-style oatmeal and much more. In addition, we will offer Breakfast in the Classroom in select schools so that more students will get the nutrition they need to start their day.

Chartwells-Thompson  has a support team of Registered Dietitians and Professional Chefs that work together  to provide high quality, great tasting menus that will please each grade group and meet or exceed the USDA guidelines.   This will give students a great opportunity to make the right choices when it comes to the foods they enjoy.  Throughout the District, our goal is to enhance quality and variety, while providing nutritious and appealing meals.

Nutrition Education

At the elementary level, we will introduce the Eat.Learn.Live. Characters, Theodore Eat, Sydney C. Learn, and Ava Live to focus on the importance of balanced meals, physical activity and nutrition education.  Students from elementary to high school get a chance to have fun while learning about the good health with the 10-Minute Nutrition Lesson Plans and our award winning Chartwells Nutrition Videos .

Environments

We will implement Environments®, our age-specific, customized school dining program that resonates with students, administrators and parents alike. Developed with market research and student feedback, it transforms the typical cafeteria into a unique social learning experience with an emphasis on high quality Balanced Choices meals, nutrition education, and prompt, friendly service.  Environments encourages students to make good meal choices and promotes wellness in the cafeteria, in the classroom and at home.

We look forward to seamlessly integrating our innovative programs into Duval County Public Schools where students will discover and enjoy balanced, nutritious meals.
