Chartwells/Thompson in conjunction with DCPS is launching a breakfast in the classroom pilot at 12 schools across the district. This "new" school breakfast program is designed to deliver convenience and nutrition from the cafeteria to the classroom. The implementation of this pilot will allow students to ‘fuel up’ for a full day’s work! Pre-packaged breakfasts will be delivered to the classroom for each student to partake in. The best part is that all students regardless of status eat for FREE!
The following schools are participating in the pilot:
| Beers |
Kimball |
River Terrace |
| Garfield |
Malcolm X |
Simon |
| Drew |
Moten @ Wilkinson |
Stanton |
| JO Wilson |
Raymond |

Help Celebrate Earth Day on Thursday, April 22, 2010 by being a Flexitarian!!!
What is a Flexitarian you may ask?
A Flexitarian is someone who actively incorporates meatless meals into his/her meals but isn’t necessarily a vegetarian.
By making a slight change in our diet and simply eating one meat-free meal a week, we can make an impact on both our health and the environment.
All schools will be offering the following menu on Earth Day:
Bean and Cheese Chalupa
Fiesta Rice
Fresh Tossed salad with light dressing
Fresh Pear
Low Fat or Fat Free Milk ________________________________________________________________________
As we begin the 2008-2009 school year, Chartwells School Dining Services is pleased to introduce the New Chartbusters program. Chartbusters is a year-long program containing nutrition and food education, learning activities and special event ideas. These interactions are developed to maximize cafeteria participation in the National School Breakfast and Lunch program. Our programs focus on the classroom, the cafeteria, and the school community.
Each year elementary level, students follow an adventure of fun and nutrition education with the help from our 3 mascots Theodore Eat, Sydney C. Learn, and Ava Live. These new friends are representatives of nutrition and healthy living! This team will learn about Breakfast, Food and Cultures and Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables. As each mascot makes healthy food choices they will also be spreading the word about good nutrition and healthy eating habits.
